Rants, MACs and PCs

The Windows Movie Maker program is highly underestimated, but it is limited, yet it still does the job. When I customized my PC I wanted to make sure I had something that can handle massive amounts of rendering. I only realized that dual processors are only good if the program is optimized to take advantage of that feature. Here are the specs of my computer: SEAGATE 200GIG HDD Pentium D Processor 3.00Ghz All-In-Wonder X800 Graphics Card Sound Audigy 2 Sound Card 4 GIG DDR2 RAM (Not used to full capacity for some reason) CD/DVD Drive To tell you the truth, when I first used the PC I played games with it only such as The Movies and World of Warcraft. Then when I finally started to make some video I noticed that Windows Movie Maker doesn't take advantage of the processing power of the Pentium D. This past semester I used G4 MACs to edit the Secret Asian Man - UWD (click to view) video. Man, do I respect MAC users and their patience with that kind of computer. The one thing I hated about those MAC computers is that it crashed many times during editing. Final Cut Pro pissed me off a lot, because movie video scenes sometimes moved already set video on the sequence.. Ahh so hard to explain, but I think MAC computers are really good for multimedia productions, because their optimized to take the most out of your creations. If anything I'd love to get a new MAC computer just for editing. One other program that I have heard only good things about is Adobe Premier. I have not used that editing program, but I think since i have a PC it'll work well together with my processor and RAM. Rendering would probably take half the time it would normally take with Windows Movie Maker. The one thing I hate about Windows Movie Maker is that you can only save files in .wmv file format. I had to convert my video files to Mpeg1 and Mepeg2 to make sure Google Video's player would sync the video with music. It's sort of frustrating when your video doesn't sync.

A look back - Don't Touch Me

This was one of the first and last webcam recording I did. I didn't have my Sony Handy cam at the time, but it took really good still pictures. I tested out the video capabilities and I wasn't too impressed. I did, however manage to do some stuff with it. I used it to record my little part of a numa numa video that one of my fellow Red vs Blue friends did. You can check it out here. NUMA NUMA CRAZE I'm the guy in red right after you see one of my friends do the curly shuffle on the ground. Short cameo I know, but everyone I know from England sent me a message about it. Amazing how that Numa Numa video caught on so quickly.

The Audition

Some of the accidents that happened in this little 5minute video did happen unintentionally while recording. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. I'm still amazed that I never broke character after those things broke on me. I guess I was too into the performance that I forgot it was funny. I wanted to play on some personal experiences in this clip. A long time ago, I went to do an audition for a McDonalds and Airheads commercial. I had no idea what they wanted so they read me situations and I had to act them out in the audition. I didn't get the parts, but I did find out what the auditions were for. McDonalds Commercial - A group of people in McDonalds getting food and spending cash at the till. Mats Sundin apparently is one of the customers and sits down in a crowded area of McDonalds. Someone starts to chant "We love Macs! We love Macs!" Mats Sundin looks around and smiles, but then is told by someone that they are chanting "We love Macs" and not "We love Mats!" Commercial was rubbish anyway. Apparently the only ethnic person in the commercial was the Asian behind the till telling Mats "Have a good day!" AirHeads Commercial - I have not seen the commercial personally, but I had to act out a situation. The situation was that I was in the Arctic. I crawl out of an igloo and pretend to throw an Airhead taffy stick. Then I'm supposed to do some mundane thing and duck at the right moment as the airhead zings right past me. I didn't get this job either and I'm glad. I guess I looked like an Inuit to the casting director. I questioned about the point of the whole scene, because it seems like I was chucking a boomerang... They got the cultures crossed. I guess they didn't like that. The idea seemed unoriginal anyway.

NIN - Everyday is Exactly the Same *LIVE on Gidol*

"Everyday is Exactly the Same" By Nine Inch Nails Is a Go! GO! GO! On Gidol! ***>>>Google Idol Rock Vote<<<*** I'm actually impressed with Heats 5 and 6. I'm up against Joe and Phil Productions who both did a fun and hilarious job with The Darkness video. Now, I'm up against their new video syncing to an Evanesence song. YIKES! "Everybody's Fool" by Evanescence In heat six we have an American entry performing "Leaving" by The Starting Line and a Canadian entry performing "Walk Idiot Walk" by The Hives Seems like a battle of the two neighboring countries if you as me. Ha-Ha!

Google Video vs Youtube vs MySpace

Edit: Problem solved. Never upload a WMV to Google Video. Check! I just noticed something a bit odd between the services at Youtube and Google Video. When I upload my video on youtube it is almost like the original file, but on Google Video it places some parts of the video out of sync. See for yourself and tell me that you see a difference: Am I right or am I just being a little too picky? Edit: Wait so it isn't me. Myspace seems to be up there with Youtube. Why Google video!? Why make videos out of sync in odd places?

Bild Dir Deine Meinung by Mediengruppe Telekommander

I don't speak German and I don't know the language, but thanks to someone on the internet I was able to find out what this song was all about. This is the first time I have made a video where I lip-synch to another language. I had to phonetically write out what this band was saying with the help of the German lyrics found at Google Idol. I should probably post them on the forums, because I'm sure some English speaking people are sure to pass up this opportunity, because it's sort of hard to pronounce the words. This was all done in my apartment. Planning what I was going to do took at least 4 days and editing took several hours. I used Windows Movie Maker, because I have no other video editing program available on my home computer. If College wasn't done for the summer I would have used their almighty MAC Computers. But, I like the KISS (Keep it simple Stupid) and MISS (Make it Simple Stupid) method. The only problem making this video was WMM would freeze on me. To tell you the truth, the program stalled on me about 20 times before I finished today. It pissed me off a lot. I had to leave my computer for a bit to make sure I don't munch my computer. Why are all my videos in black and white? To hide the quality, of course. I had some lighting problems. The sun at around 11am-3pm makes my house very bright so indoor lighting is rarely used, but I had to use it in some shots. I use a Sony Handycam to record my stuff and sometimes the white balance can have a mind of its own. I think until I get a new camera with advanced functions, I won't be filming in colour anytime soon. Why are you wearing duct tape on your shirt and sweater? Because I don't want to display any logos. But, you can fully see the Reebok logo! ... Um Oops! That last scene seemed ripped from your NIN music video Not exactly, it’s not as psychotic as the NIN video. I embellished the method a bit by having the transparencies pull the rapping character back with their hands… just pay close attention. What is Jeskid.com? He is a fellow filmmaker and friend. Anyway, here's the final product. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did filming it... Now, editing it was a pain in the ass. FUCK YOU WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER! *Video Will be released on May 24th* ENJOY!

Secret Asian Man - UWD

Secret Asian Man finds his first job, but there are some snags in the way *Notes* This is a just a short film poject for a Sheridan College course in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. This was made for an Introductory to Film and Genre Study course. The genre we chose to work on was Film Noir, but looking at the end product I would say it was a parody of Noir/Action films. Almost like the farcical elements you would find in spoofs like The Naked Gun Trilogy or National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon, but more tame. The movie limit for the short film was four minutes. The extra 27 seconds were just for credits. We submitted this project to the professor on April 12th, 2006. There were many influences that went into making the movie: - Japanese Anime - Spaghetti Western style of stripping audio and replacing it with dubs and sound effects - The Matrix (of course) - Films Noir (Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity and T-Men) - Basic Hollywood story structure line - Brechtian methods - But ultimately taking the best of the best B movie level of acting This short film project was so much fun to make and I think it shows in the final product. I hope some of you will find some humour and entertainment in this. If not, then I guess we have more learning to do. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it!

A Look Back - Breakfast

This was made about two years ago when I was still living with my parents. The music seemed fitting for this type of video. I always pictured a person waking up and making breakfast, but with some snags in the way. The end product was good; the eggs I mean. I never thought putting the ketchup directly into the mixing bowl would make eggs taste so good. The toast was burned after putting it in the toaster after 5 tries. For some odd reason that tasted awesome after smearing margarine all over it. Enjoy!

Vox Box

This was an idea floating around my head for a while. I sometimes think of the most weird stuff, but it always ends up being a good product in the end. I was only took about eight minutes of footage for this shot. I did my best to make sure scenes were aligned in editing. I did what I could with what I had. I think it works effectively, but eventually I will update this type of video or try it at another location where activity is high. This was taken at high noon. It seems fellow Canadians don't take their Lunch Time quite seriously.

A Look Back - Confusion

Confusion - The Zutons
I created this video in the Fall of 2004. I remember, because I got my first car in August. It was sort of a tranition period for me, because as much as I wanted to hold on to dear life to my immaturity, I couldn't help but grow. This is sort of a sentimental short video that I enjoyed making, because it shows some of the many instances that were only found on tape. My whole life is just an on going performance, undocumented and unedited. Infact everyone's life is like that. I thought it would be best to profile some of the many instances in my life that were important to me. Hope you enjoy the video.
